So What's My Story?

After 3 years of being a poor social worker (the work I loved, the pay I didn't), I decided it was time to go back to school and get my Master's! After weighing my options (school far away from home, or school in a different country that is only an 8-hour drive from home) I decided to try my luck in British Columbia, Canada.

For a year I lived in
Surrey, BC while attending Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. However, as the final component of my work toward my Masters degree in Criminology I have moved back to the states to complete an internship at an Independent Living Program for youth leaving the foster care system.

Here is the story of my adventures as a graduate student in a "foreign" country as well as my current work back in the states.

The Boob Tube

Guess what Canadians watch on TV up here?

Grey's Anatomy, Law and Order, Lost..... AMERICAN TV! lol I was expecting to find some cool Canadian shows when I came up here... but this is what I found... I present to you... "Corner Gas" (any show where the lead actor's last name is "Butt" has GOT to be interesting, right?)

I did find one I like though... it's called "Being Erica".... though, since I don't have cable and only use rabbit ears, it's not one I can get... thank goodness for Jacob's mad downloading abilities! =)

  1. I love Corner Gas. ;-) I can't get in to Little Mosque on the Prairie, though.

If you can get hold of Da Vinci's Inquest, you should, and try watching it from the first season all the way to the end. It's very dark and Nicholas Campbell is a wonderful actor. Intelligence was also good, but canceled after just two seasons.

There are some good Canadian shows, but you have to work to find them. That said, I've been sucked back into 24 and I'm giving Damages second season a look.

  2. Hey Brittney! This is Lauren from good ol' JC. I found your blog through Holly's. You're in Canada, eh? Pretty cool. Hope all is going well for you!
